What Is Meant By Health Is Wealth?

Every one of us wrote an essay on ‘health is wealth’ at least once in our childhood. Analysing its true meaning and underlying connotation has become all the more important due to this coronavirus pandemic all around.

Good health is not an isolated term. It indicates a stage of life when one stays physically fit and mentally strong. Good health helps us exert a greater amount of mental and physical strength to maximise our income and wealth. This, in turn, multiplies our happiness.

According to WHO, “Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.”

WHO (World Health Organization) categorically emphasises on a couple of points;

  1. Health is independent of diseases.
  2. Health is a holistic concept.

One who is physically fit in a perfect proportion to one’s height and weight–and is free from unwanted stress and mental agonies with a social recognition is likely to enjoy good health as compared to others.

When a person faces social isolation, it badly impacts his mental state. We need to stay wary of that.

Critical Factors of Good Health

  1. The availability of an eight-hour sleep.
  2. Fresh air.
  3. Non-polluted atmosphere.
  4. Mental peace.
  5. Potable drinking water.
  6. And fresh vegetables and fruits.

When a person is incapable of accessing any of these, then he or she is more likely to fall ill and remain unhealthy.

What Is Real Wealth in Life?

Whenever we come across the term real wealth, the images of costly jewellery, luxurious cars, and bungalows come to our minds.

Once Mahatma Gandhi quoted that health is real wealth, not gold and silver. He was exactly correct. No matter how much money or gold/silver/ diamond you buy, you won’t feel content and complacent unless you are healthy.

But that’s not the real wealth.

Real wealth consists of things that we can’t buy or possess. It has more to do with our psychological and inner well-being than materialistic pleasure.

Take for instance; You can’t buy happiness, sunshine, air, mental peace, mental enlightenment, and of course good health. Thus, real wealth includes all such things, which are much more valuable than material wealth or assets.

Good health is real wealth. It’s intrinsic to one’s mind, body, and soul. Unfortunately, we don’t care or do much to stay in good health until it’s too late.

But once we fall into the trap of unhealthy routine and lifestyle, it’s difficult to shun that. When our health is perfect, only then we can focus on accumulating wealth or enjoying the luxuries of life.

The same goes with our social well-being too. Each of us wants to enjoy a just and equitable social status in society. Social recognition is helpful to get the feel of being special and wanted.

Top 10 Ways to Stay Healthy

We need health and glow in our lives. When our families are happy, healthy, and content, we don’t need other amenities or unlimited wealth.

Once any of us falls sick, it can directly impact our money earning capacities too. We always need to prioritise good health over and above everything else.

Here are the top 10 ways to retain your good health and mental peace forever.

  • Eat Healthy Food

Include wholesome food enriched with the goodness of balanced amounts of carbohydrates, proteins, fibre and vitamins in your daily diet.

Eat organically-grown vegetables and fruits as much as possible while reducing the intake of synthetic and processed food. Wholesome food is gut-friendly and boosts our immune system as well.

  • Maintain an Active Lifestyle

Laziness increases our weight, which can be life-threatening if unchecked. It may lead to diabetes, blood pressure, obesity, and other health complications in the future. Practice yoga or mild cardio exercises for at least 45 minutes early in the morning.

  • Avoid Stress and Tensions

Anxiety, stress, and tension won’t lead you anywhere. Stay active and keep doing your work. Don’t run after the so-called luxuries of life. Just stay happy and leave the rest to god. He will do what’s best for you.

  • Get Adequate Sleep

Never ignore the importance of an eight-hour sleep. Keep all gadgets and smartphones away from your bed at night time.

Our body is a machine and it needs to restart all its organs for proper functioning. So, never compromise with a quality eight-hour sleep every day.

  • Water and Hydration

A glass of water at least every couple of hours is essential to stay dehydrated and flushing out toxins from the body.

  • Shun Bad Habits

Smoking is not a good habit. It never was. Stop smoking now. Initially, it may seem impossible, but keep trying and eventually, you will succeed in shunning smoking and tobacco. Similarly, reduce your alcohol intake to a couple of pegs only, and that too occasionally.

  • Meditation and Worship

Healing energy and invisible power is all around us. You need to tap them. Scientific studies revealed that meditation and worship pacify our souls keeping us calm and composed even in difficult times. When we have peace in our minds, then it purifies our bodies and souls too.

  • Annual Health Checkups

We are not immortal. Some health-related complications may still arise without our knowledge. Get your health thoroughly inspected by a qualified doctor at least once a year.

Certain diseases like diabetes, cardiovascular ailments and stomach-related complications may stay hidden unless professionally inspected by a medical professional.

  • Practice Safe Sex

Sex is important to our mental and physiological well-being. But practising safe sex is essential. Use a condom every time you spend quality time with your partner. Unsafe sex can lead to life-threatening STDs (Sexually Transmitted Diseases), including HIV/ AIDS and UTI (Urinary Tract Infection).

  • Maintain Good Hygiene

Good hygiene is a must. Try to keep yourself and your surrounding clean. Bath at least twice a day with a quality antibacterial soap and shampoo to maintain your personal hygiene.

Bathing helps us in keeping germs, dirts, and pollutants out of our body. It also keeps our body dehydrated with a refreshing feel.

Similarly, brush at least twice a day and use a quality mouthwash regularly to maintain good oral hygiene.

The Conclusion

All our material possession of money, wealth, name and fame turns out zero when we are not in good health. That’s why health is wealth. So, you should always and always prioritise good health before everything else.

Wealth has no relevance when you are unhealthy, ill, or suffering from too much mental stress. That is why staying in good health without diseases, stress, and mental agonies is so much important in our lives.
